Dirty Dancing turns 30: Our favourite moments from the film
August 21, 2017 will mark 30 years to the day that Dirty Dancing was released. I know, we can hardly believe it either. And if you’re like us and love to watch it AGAIN and AGAIN, you’re in luck. Cineplex is screening the film in VIP theatres across Canada as part of its new One Nighters @ VIP series. For only $10 a ticket, you and your besties can re-live all your favourite moments in a relaxed and luxurious setting!
To make the event extra special, Kelly Bishop (who plays Baby’s mom Marjorie in the film) will be in attendance for a Q&A at the Yonge-Eglinton location in Toronto. Get ready to have the time of your life! Reminisce with our favourite Dirty Dancing moments below, and dance over to a theatre near you on Monday.
1. “I carried a watermelon.”
Who hasn’t said something super awkward or embarrassing to their crush? This moment is not only endearing, it also make Baby’s feelings for Johnny very clear from the beginning.
2. The “Hungry Eyes” dance montage
This song was meant for this movie. I mean, just look at how Baby and Johnny look at each other once Johnny stops talking about her spaghetti arms!
3. Practicing dance moves on a log (and in a field and in a lake)
You couldn’t convince us to go out on a limb to bust a move! But Baby clearly trusts Johnny, which makes this scene particularly heartwarming and fun!
4. Baby and Johnny’s romantic dance
Sigh. If this scene doesn’t make you feel something, you’re heartless.
5. How do you call your lover boy?
The way that Baby and Johnny perfectly act out the lines from the classic song “Love Is Strange” by Mickey & Sylvia is just perfect.
6. Nobody puts Baby in a corner
This line may not make the most sense (I guess she is both literally and figuratively in a corner?), but man is it iconic! It’s such an epic part of the film and shows Johnny’s not giving up without a fight!
9. Baby’s heartfelt moment with her father.
Baby and her father have their differences, but here we get a hint that he may come around and become more open minded.
10. I’ve had the time of my life
Let’s face it. This is everyone’s part of the film. The lift alone is pure magic.
