Censored Acclaimed Iranian Director Abdolreza Kahani Commences Principal Photography on Isthmus

Toronto– December 3, 2019 – Blue Footlights, a Toronto based independent production company, today announced principal photography has commenced on ISTHMUS, the latest feature film by acclaimed, award-winning Iranian writer/director Abdolreza Kahani (TwentyAbsolutely Tame is a Horse). The prominent director migrated to France in 2015 after three of his films were banned in Iran and he was prevented from submitting them to international festivals. ISTHMUS marks his first Canadian, English-speaking film, currently shooting on location in downtown Toronto and the GTA until the end of December.

Starring up and coming Canadian actors Stephanie Jaskot, Reece Presley, Catherine Howard and Adam Daniel Menzei, this psychological thriller follows the story of Veronic, a woman who loves her husband but struggles with the fear of being controlled by him, while he assumes he satisfies her in every possible way.

“I am delighted to be shooting this film in Canada and to be working with an incredibly devoted cast and crew,” said Abdolreza Kahani. “I feel very fortunate to bring this script to life by such a talented group of people.”

Saeed Fardsaberi of Blue Footlights and Amanda Kiely of Tall Brit Productions (Mags and Julie, upcoming Sweethearts; a Michael Radford film) will produce the film. Post completion, the film will travel the international and Canadian festival circuit in 2020.
