HAMILTON, ON (June 29, 2026) – Oak View Group (OVG) and TD Coliseum today announced the Shai Legacy Court, a basketball court designed in honour of Hamilton’s own NBA Champion and two-time Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Earlier this year, Gilgeous-Alexander joined TD Coliseum as an investor, supporting Hamilton’s growth as a leading destination for sports and entertainment and investing in the future of his hometown.

The court will debut for the FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers hosted at TD Coliseum in Hamilton where Gilgeous-Alexander is expected to represent Team Canada when they face Puerto Rico on July 3, followed by Jamaica on July 6 in front of a hometown crowd. Created to celebrate Gilgeous-Alexander’s remarkable accomplishments on and off the court, the Shai Legacy Court serves as a symbol of excellence, perseverance, and community pride, while inspiring future generations of athletes in Hamilton and beyond.

Also unveiled is the Ares Atrium, a permanent installation dedicated to Gilgeous-Alexander’s 2-year-old son and family legacy. Fans entering TD Coliseum through Gate 9 for the FIBA games will be the first to experience the space, which features a custom mural of his son, Ares, created by Canadian artist Kareem-Anthony Ferreira. Drawing on themes of identity, memory, and belonging, Ferreira’s work explores how personal and familial experiences shape our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world. Together, the Shai Legacy Court and Ares Atrium celebrate the accomplishments that have defined Gilgeous-Alexander’s career and the family values that continue to guide it.

"Hamilton gave me the space to dream and the foundation to become who I am," said Gilgeous-Alexander. "Having something permanent here connected to my family's legacy means everything, and getting to play for Team Canada on my own court is something I'm really proud of."

“The Shai Legacy Court and Ares Atrium recognize not only Shai’s incredible achievements, but the impact he continues to have on this community,” said Nick DeLuco, Senior Vice President and General Manager of TD Coliseum. “We’re honoured to celebrate his family’s connection to Hamilton in a way that will inspire future generations for years to come. TD Coliseum continues to serve as a catalyst for growth and renewal in downtown Hamilton, it’s fitting that one of the city’s most inspiring success stories will be woven into the fabric of the building’s future.”

Since opening in November 2025, TD Coliseum has quickly established itself as one of Canada’s premier destinations for sports and entertainment, hosting world-class events while creating unforgettable experiences for fans. The addition of the Shai Legacy Court and Ares Atrium represents the next chapter in that vision, creating a permanent connection between one of basketball’s biggest stars and the city that he proudly represents on the global stage.

Tickets for the FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers at TD Coliseum, featuring Team Canada versus Puerto Rico on July 3 and Jamaica on July 6, are available now at TDColiseum.com.
